Join me on Facebook, I would love to see your work!
The blanket presented on this page is with universal and timeless pattern design. It is using simple stitches which means that even if you don't feel very comfortable with crochet, it may not be overwhelming working on it.
The blanket is worked by firs crocheting the main body in rows, then the border is worked around it.
The instructions below are quick for now but I will post with more detail soon.

Pattern
The blanket is first worked in rows on the short side creating the open work on the middle. Then the border is worked in rounds.
Chain 114 or any even number of stitched depending on the size you would like to achieve.
Row 1: Hdc in the third chain from the hook, ch1, skip one stitch, *hdc in the next, 1ch, skip one stitch*. Repeat from * to * and finish by hdc in that last stitch. Ch1 and turn.
Row 2: Hdc in the first chain space, ch1, skip one stitch, *hdc in the next chain space, chain one, skip one stitch*. Repeat from * to * and finish by hdc in that last stitch which will be the top of the turning chain from the previous row. Ch1 and turn.
Repeat 65 time row 2 or as many times as you like to reach the desired length of the blanket.
Border (worked in rounds):
Round 1: Work 1 double crochet stitch in each stitch and 3 double crochet stitches in each corner stich of the blanket.
Round 2: Work *2 double crochet, skip one*. Repeat from * to * around. When reaching a corner, work twice dc2 in the same stitch, skip one.
Round 3: Work one single crochet in all stitches around. When you reach a corner, work sc2 in each of the 3 corner stitches.
Round 4: Work a HDC in the back loop of each stitch from round 3. When you reach a corner, crochet with HDC3 in the same corner stitch.
Round 5 to Round 7: Work a HDC in the third loop of each stitch. Corners are crochet with HDC2 twice in each corner. If you like wider borders, you could add a few rounds more here.
Round 8: I finished the blanket with working a single crochet in the third loop of each of the HDC from previous round. The corners are worked with sc2 twice in each corner. Finish the blanket with a seamless join.
Weave in the ends and enjoy the blanket :)
